The story of a spirit exploring its distressed forest
-
'Deep Forest' is a 2.5D walking simulator where the player experiences the story of a spirit exploring its distressed forest.
I was the programmer in this project, but being a walking simulator Deep Forest's features where mostly related to atmosphere.
Therefore, I took care of features like Inverse Kinematics for our character, animation blending and character movement and foliage shading and music blending.
Furthermore, one of my main contributions to this project was the implementation of a rail based camera system using UE4's integrated splines.
The splines enabled the Level Designer to specify a path the camera would take according to the position of the character, which added a more cinematic feeling to the game.
The camera and movement features were implemented in native C++ whereas the rest was realized using blueprints.
This project was my first UE4 project and I learned plenty about working with the UE4 itself, as well as about team climate and intra team communication.
This project was developed at 'Games Academy Berlin'.
